The following gold coins are representative of the coins Miles Franklin, Ltd. buys and sells. They are primarily what is known as "bullion coins ". Bullion gold coins are valuable primarily for the gold in them and not because of their rarity, uniqueness, type or any other consideration.
That said, there are differences other than the amount of gold content that affect value. For example, the one ounce South African Krugerrand normally trades for slightly less than most other one ounce bullion gold coins. The reason? Probably because of the one-time perception that South Africa practiced apartheid policies. Should this difference in value affect your buy decision? That is up to you. In general however, although you can buy the gold Krugerrand for about 3% less than the gold American Eagle, you don't get as much when you sell it.
The key in buying bullion Gold coin is to be sure you are buying a widely traded issue that is recognized by dealers as easily marketable. In general, all the gold coins we buy and sell fit this category.
