The Constitution’s preamble has become as ubiquitous as the “pledge of allegiance,” the “Star-Spangled Banner,” and the Gettysburg Address’s “four score and seven years ago”…

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

At the time, I believed America was the world’s greatest nation – in every way, shape, and form.  That’s not to say it was true – as patriotism and PROPAGANDA tend to cloud one’s judgment – but inarguably, the U.S. had broken ground in countless, unique ways.  Of course, I was born in 1970 – less than a year before the REAL “shot heard ‘round the world,” described by Nixon’s as “protecting the dollar”…

It gives me great sadness to see our government recant its most inviolate rules – such as the founders’ prohibition against “unreasonable searches and seizures” – but NOTHING more so than the following…
No State shall make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts.
In my view, that sentence was the single most defining rule of the fledgling United States; empowering it – ABOVE ALL – to the greatness it achieved in the following two centuries.  However, once the gold standard was abandoned – and gold not only deserted, but demonized – America altered its course to the “path of least resistance”; HYPERINFLATION.  Millions of pages will be written on the rise and fall of the American empire; but if TRUTH be told, the epitaph of its greatness will start on September 17th, 1787, and end August 15th, 1971.
