Andy,
Thank you for this Thursday update as I look forward to them each week.
You’re very welcome!
Andy, with record demand at the us mint (ASE) every year. I’ve heard you mention that majority is not western buyers. Presumably the Chinese are the ones doing the heavy lifting. I was wondering how they go about this? Do they just go directly through primary dealers? Retail outlets? I assuming the same could be said for the RCM maple leaf program? Thanks for all you do.
Thank you thank you for what you do, Mr Hoffman. I was wondering if you would consider posting the audio to itunes. Apple has, for obvious reasons, made listening to mp3’s difficult if you don’t have a reliable data connection.
Thanks again for your great work.
Mike
Mike,
No guarantees, but I will see what I can do.

These podcasts and blog posts should be available everywhere! Excellent consistent work Mr. Hoffman.
Thanks Louis. Several others re-post them, so they’re getting decent listenership.
Hi Andy,
Perhaps you can help me figure out which CPI measure everyone is talking about when they say that the CPI excludes food and energy. When I go to the BLS I find that their CPI-U and CPI-W both contain food and energy. And isn’t that what is used in COLA for social security etc? Many thanks for all you do.
Simple, the government reports two figures; 1) the “CPI,” and 2) the “core-CPI” (ex-food and energy). I’m not sure exactly which they use for the COLA adjustment, but both are massively understated. The issue with the core number is that it is what the Fed uses to determine “inflation” (“adjustments” and all).
